Dr. Bagasha Peace
Peace Bagasha, MBChB, MMED, is a Clinical Lecturer in the Makerere University College of Health Sciences Palliative Care Unit. She has a clinical fellowship in Kidney disease from McMaster University in Canada. Peace is also an avid educator and has participated in curriculum development in Rwanda and mentors and supervises multiple postgraduate and undergraduate students.
Her dream is to set up a specialized kidney disease training center in Uganda as there is currently none in East Africa. Her Ph.D. research will focus on the quality of life of patients with end-stage kidney disease in Uganda. Kidney disease is the 13th leading cause of death in Uganda and most patients are diagnosed late with very costly treatment options which increase poverty levels for entire communities.
Her research will be conducted in collaboration with the University of Cambridge and she will compare the quality of life in patients on conservative management with that for patients on Hemodialysis. Information obtained will contribute to policy development, healthcare worker education, and improve patient management.
