Dr. Bernard Kikaire
Bernard Kikaire MBChB, MSc. Ph.D. Is a medical doctor trained at Makerere University and holds an MSc in Epidemiology from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a PhD in HIV nutrition and Immunology from Trinity College Dublin. He is a Lecturer Makerere University School of Medicine, Department of Paediatrics since 2012, which he joined after working for the MRC/UVRI Research Unit in Uganda for 9 years. He lectures research methods and biostatistics to graduate students at the school of medicine, and coordinates the proposal and thesis writing for the graduate students at the department of Paediatrics.
Bernard has more than 17 years of research with interests in clinical, epidemiological and operations/implementation research in HIV. He was involved in two big global trials, the START trial and the DART trial both of which revolutionized the use of antiretroviral treatment among persons living with HIV/AIDS. He has also been involved in the coordination and management of several research projects at the MRC.
