Dr. Olivia Kituuka, MBChB, MMED, Ph.D.
Dr. Kituuka will lead the session, drawing on practical experiences within emergency care to highlight challenges encountered during consent processes, including communication barriers, decision-making under pressure, and ethical considerations when dealing with incapacitated patients.

About the Engagement

The session will unpack real-life scenarios demonstrating the complexities surrounding informed consent in emergencies, such as:

  • Obtaining consent from disoriented or unconscious patients

  • Misidentification of surrogate decision-makers

  • Communication gaps with families during urgent clinical decisions

  • Balancing patient autonomy with the need for life-saving intervention
