PROFESSOR. ANNET NAKIMULI
 
Current Dean, School of Medicine (2020-2025)
 
Annettee Nakimuli is a leading maternal health researcher based in Uganda, focused primarily on investigating the aetiology, treatment, prevention and long term outcomes of pregnancy complications among women in Sub-Saharan Africa. She is committed to building maternal and newborn research capacity in Africa and her aim is, with East African and International colleagues, to establish a multidisciplinary centre for African maternal and neonatal health research located at Makerere University in Uganda.

PROFESSOR. DAMALIE NAKANJAKO

Dean, School of Medicine (2019-2020)

Damalie Nakanjako, Professor of Medicine and Dean School of Medicine, trained at Makerere University for her Bachelors’ degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) and Master of Medicine degree (MMED) in Internal Medicine and doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in medical sciences from the University of Antwerp, Belgium.

She teaches courses in Clinical Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Immunology, HIV/AIDS care as well as Ethics and Health professionalism courses.

Research interests: HIV and co-infections, Optimizing HIV treatment outcomes, Immune recovery, Immune activation and Inflammation Chronic Inflammation, clinical and translational research

PROF. MOSES.R. KAMYA

Dean, School of Medicine (2015-2019)

Moses R. Kamya, a Professor of Medicine and Dean School of Medicine 2015-2019, trained at Makerere University for his Bachelors’ degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) and Master of Medicine degree (MMED) in Internal Medicine, Masters in Public Health from University of California, Berkeley, USA, and doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in medical sciences from the University of Antwerp, Belgium.

Professor Harriet Mayanja-Kizza, Professor of medicine and Dean School of Medicine (2011-2015) trained at Makerere University for her Bachelors’ degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) and Master of Medicine degree (MMED) in Internal Medicine. She holds MSc from Case Western Reserve University and a PhD from _____

PROF. STEPHEN C. KIJJAMBU

Dean, School of Medicine (2008-2011)

Professor Stephen C. Kijjambu is a Professor of Surgery and Dean School of Medicine (2008-2011) who trained at Makerere University for his Bachelors’ of Medicine and Surgery and Master of Medicine in Surgery. He is also a medical education expert who pioneered problem based teaching and learning in the School of Medicine at Makerere University

Professor Nelson Sewankambo, a professor of internal medicine and Dean, School of Medicine 1996-2008), was also the first Principal of the College of Health Sciences at Makerere University.

Professor Raphael Owor, MBChB, MD, FRCPath, ScD, is a Ugandan physician, pathologist, academic and medical researcher, who served as the Dean of Makerere University School of Medicine, after serving as Professor and Head, Department of Pathology at Makerere University.
