Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS), in collaboration with Global Health Uganda (GHU) and international partners, invites applications for a fully-funded PhD Fellowship as part of a new multi-centre clinical trial:
“Chemoprevention of malaria in the post-discharge management of children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM)” in Uganda and Malawi.
About the Program
This fellowship builds on previous successful malaria chemoprevention studies conducted in vulnerable populations such as:

The new trial expands this work to children with severe acute malnutrition, aiming to understand the interactions between malaria, anaemia, and SAM in children.
Fellowship Highlights

Duration: 4 years (initial 1-year renewable based on performance)

Tenure: Makerere University, hosted at MakCHS

Funding: Covers tuition, a competitive monthly stipend, research-related costs, and travel to scientific conferences

Supervision: National and international research mentors

Training: Doctoral-level training in research methods and scientific writing
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
-
Hold a Master’s of Medicine in Paediatrics and Child Health
-
Be licensed to practice in Uganda by the UMDPC
-
Hold an undergraduate degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB/MBBS/MD)
-
Be available to fully commit to the PhD program starting immediately
-
Not hold any other fellowships
-
Prior publication experience is an added advantage
-
Be highly motivated and committed to a research career
