Clinical Rotations Abroad for 4th Year Medical Students (2025)

Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS), School of Medicine, invites eligible 4th Year medical students to apply for clinical rotations abroad through established student exchange programs with partner institutions.

Selected students will undertake observational clinical placements within diverse international healthcare systems. Upon completion of the rotations, participants will be required to return to Makerere University to fulfill all academic requirements leading to the award of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).

Eligibility Criteria

Students who meet the following requirements are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • A minimum CGPA of 3.6 on normal academic progress (no retakes)

  • Academic references

  • A current Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • A thoughtfully written personal statement

  • Added advantage for students vaccinated against MMR, Varicella, DPT, Yellow Fever, and Hepatitis B (vaccination cards must be submitted)

Partner Institutions and Funding Status

The available rotation opportunities include the following institutions:

  • Yale University, USA – Partial funding (student contribution: vaccinations)

  • Northwestern University, USA – Partial funding (student contribution: vaccinations)

  • Magna Graecia University, Italy – Fully funded (student contribution: vaccinations)

  • Des Moines University, USA – Partial funding (student contribution: air ticket and vaccinations)

  • University of Cambridge, UK – Fully funded (student contribution: vaccinations)
