Masters’ Scholarship Opportunity: Research Projects focusing on Malaria

Introduction

Students pursuing master’s programmes at Makerere University College of Health Sciences are invited to apply for a supplementary grant to enable them to successfully complete a high-quality thesis resulting into the completion of their Masters Program and publication of their dissertation in a peer-reviewed journal.  ONLY research projects focusing on Malaria will be considered.

 

There will be one award totaling USD 2,500 to cover research costs and tuition fees for 1 year as detailed below:

—  USD 1,100 will be available to the student to support direct costs of the research study, including data collection, materials and equipment, and dissemination costs.

—  USD 1,400 will be available to cover the student’s tuition for 1 year during which the student will be conducting his/her research study.

The successful fellow will be required to obtain relevant ethical approvals from recognized Institutional Ethical Committees before release of funds.

 

Eligibility criteria

—  Registered at Masters Level at Makerere University College of Health Sciences.

—  Applicants must be in the second year of their Master’s course.

—  On normal academic progress

 

Students who already have funding for their research should NOT apply.

 

Application requirements

—  A  research  concept  paper  (5  pages  excluding  the  title  page)  with  the  following  4  subheadings: Background, Problem Statement, Justification, Objectives, and Methods.

—  A 1 paged personal statement outlining how this thesis will contribute to your scientific career.

—  A brief budget (up to the allowable limit) should be included, using the headings ‘Ethical approval,

stationery and photocopying, field assistant, consumables, and other’.

—  Curriculum Vitae.
