Joseph Rujumba BA. SWSA, MA. SSPM, PhD is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, School of Medicine, Makerere University. He holds a PhD (International Health) of the University of Bergen, Norway; a Masters in Social Sector Planning and Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Social Administration of Makerere University. He supervises post graduate research (PhD and Master’s degrees); and provides medical social work services at the adolescent clinic and paediatric wards Mulago National Referral Hospital. He teaches social paediatrics, adolescent health and qualitative research to undergraduate and post graduate students. He is part of the team that co-founded and runs the adolescent clinic at Mulago hospital. Joseph is actively involved in research with focus on the social determinants of child, adolescent and maternal health. By December 2020, he had 25 peer reviewed scientific journal publications in areas of HIV, breastfeeding, SRH, adolescent health, Sickle Cell and Malaria.

He is a coordinator for the MMed Social Paediatrics and Child Health 1 and II courses. He is an adolescent health master trainer and a member of several professional and technical bodies including: the African Network for the Care of Children affected by HIV/AIDS (ANECCA) board, Uganda Adolescent HIV prevention and treatment Implementation Science Alliance (U-AHISA) coordinated by MakCHS and the Ministry of Health, HIV Behavioural Social Science Research team (BSSR-MakCHS), the World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines Development Committee- on Child Maltreatment in the Health Sector,   the International AIDS Society, the Society for AIDS in Africa, the Organiser of the Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA),  Uganda Social Workers Association, Uganda Paediatrics Association.
