Nicolette Nabukeera Barungi MBChB, MMed, PhD is a Ugandan female medical doctor who holds a masters of medicine degree in Paediatrics and Child health as well as a doctorate in the area of childhood malnutrition the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. She has worked at the Makerere University College of Health Sciences for over twelve years.

She has provided clinical care for children with HIV for over 15 years and she picked particular interest in the adolescent age group. This led her to be interested in adolescents in general and is part of an adolescent clinic. Clinical care for HIV also led to an interest in Malnutrition, especially the link between HIV and malnutrition. She has therefore been involved in a lot of research in the areas of HIV, adolescent health and malnutrition. This is evidenced by her 29 publications in these fields.

Her academic responsibilities at the Department of Paediatrics include lecturing undergraduate and postgraduate students in all fields of Paediatrics, providing clinical care on the Nutrition Unit and engaging in various research activities.  In addition, she is also an active mentor and supervisor to undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students. She is the current coordinator of the Masters of Medicine in Paediatrics program at the Department of Paediatrics.
